OVERVIEW
The R 18 evokes BMW's past and classic brand characteristics, which they have diligently worked on. This legacy is upheld every day through the #SoulFuel spirit. The result is a character-filled cruiser with the largest boxer engine BMW has ever produced and classic styling cues.
BMW Motorrad only offers the R18 cruiser bike. Months before revealing the final production model, the company gave us glimpses of the bike in various concept versions. The wait was worth it because the production item isn't much different from the design and looks equally gorgeous.
ENGINE and HARDWARE
A massive 1,800cc boxer-twin engine powers the motorbike, the biggest boxer-twin BMW ever fitted to a production bike. It is air and oil-cooled. It generates 91bhp at 4,750 rpm and 158Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. Riding both in the city and on the highway should be enjoyable. Most of that performance is supplied between 2,000 and 4,000 RPM at the lower end. The six-speed gearbox drives the engine. The BMW R18 incorporates an anti-lock braking system and front and rear disc brakes. Also, the seat height of the bike is 690 mm, and a 16-liter petrol tank capacity. The kerb weight of the bike is 345 kg.
The 1936 BMW R5 cruiser influenced the R18's design, which is stunning from every viewpoint. The motorcycle features a spherical headlamp, a single-pod instrument cluster, a gasoline tank shaped like a peanut, and a chopped rear fender. The dual fish tail-like exhausts that spiral out of the powerful boxer mill are the R18's principal design distinction. The scooped seat, wide handlebar, and slightly forward-set footpegs suggest good ergonomics.
FEATURES
The R18 is a typical BMW vehicle because it includes many features. On the list are the following features: reverse gear, heated grips, full-LED lighting, cornering lights, switchable automated stability control, engine drag and torque management, and three riding modes (Rain, Rock, and Roll). The cycle's components are straightforward. The R18 is suspended by telescoping forks and a cantilever strut with adjustable damping and spring preload. One brake disc is utilized at the back, and two 300mm brake discs are used up front.
COLORS
Black storm metallic, classic, classic chrome, mineral white metallic, gravity blue metallic, black storm metallic, galaxy dust metallic, and Manhattan metallic matte are the 8 hues the BMW R 18 is offered in.
PRICE
Like other foreign markets, BMW has debuted the R18 in India in all five variations. The distinctions between the Standard, First Edition, Classic, 100 Years Edition, and Transcontinental trims are cosmetic. The bike price ranges from Rs 19.90 lakh to Rs 24 lakh (ex-showroom).
RIVALS
BMW K 1600, Honda Goldwing, Harley Davidson Road Glide Special, Harley Davidson Sportster S, and Indian Chief Bobber Dark Horse compete with the BMW R18.
