Kymco is the Kwang Yang Motor Co. Ltd. abbreviation and is stylized as KYMCO. KYMCO Bikes is a Taiwanese motorcycle manufacturer headquartered in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It produces more than 570,000 vehicles annually at its factory in Kaohsiung. It also has production facilities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and PR China.

KYMCO Bikes was established in 1963 after its separation from Honda. KYMCO originally made parts for Honda. KYMCO Bikes produced its first complete scooter in 1970. After that, in 1992, it started marketing under the brand name "KYMCO."

In the 2000s, Kymco Motorcycles became Taiwan's largest scooter manufacturer. It is also the fifth largest scooter manufacturer worldwide. In early 2008, KYMCO was selected by BMW to supply engines for its G450.

As a power sports enthusiast, Mr. Allen, Chairman of KYMCO Group, participated in motor racing and worked in repair shops. KYMCO bikes have both power users and industry insiders.

He worked in the Strategic Planning Division of KYMCO, where he participated in several JV and M&A transactions and served on the boards of Capital Investment Trust Corporation, Capital Securities Corporation, and Ta Chong Bank.

The KYMCO Alternative Range also supplies the extender in the BMW i3. In late 2013, Kawasaki announced they would produce their new J300 scooter in partnership with Kymco. It is based on the Kymco Downtown 300i.
