Lambretta Bikes

The name is derived from the word Lambrette, a suburb of Milan named after the Lambro River. It flows through the region; its factory is located in Milan, Italy. Lambretta was the name of a mythological water spirit associated with the river that flowed near the former production site.

In 1972, the Government of India purchased the Milanese factory's machinery to produce Lambretta scooters and Lambro three-wheelers, creating Scooters India Limited (SIL) under the name Vikram for the domestic market. Lambretta electric scooters were manufactured under license by Fenwick in France, NSU in Germany, Serveta in Spain, API in India, Yulon in Taiwan, Pasco in Brazil, Auteco in Colombia, and Siambretta in Argentina.

Lambretta Scooters has several clubs around the world, both national and local, dedicated to its scooters. Clubs still participate and organize ride-outs and rallies, which occur regularly during weekends in the summer months and have high attendance, with some rallies having up to 2,500 paying rally spectators.
