upcoming commuter bikes in india

While the Super Meteor 650 and other high-end motorcycles have already been given the go-ahead for release, some interesting new products are expected in the commuter motorcycles market. Here is a list of five such motorcycles for commuting. While some are certain to launch, others are a good possibility.

India has the largest commuter motorcycle market. Where two-wheeler tycoon Hero MotoCorp still dominates the market, several other attractive bikes from manufacturers like the TVS Raider 125 or the Bajaj Platina 100 ABS only add to the excitement of the segment.

Here are five more such commuter bikes that are set to debut in 2023. Both ICE-powered motorbikes and electric two-wheelers feature in the list.

Honda 100cc Commuter Motorcycle

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) President Atsushi Ogata announced in a media interview last year that the company will introduce a new commuter motorcycle. While not much is known about the new commuter motorcycle, we expect it to have better fuel efficiency than the Honda CD 110 Dream. However, due to its high cost and less fuel-efficient engine, the latter could never be a severe competitor to vehicles like the Passion and Splendor.

Ola Electric Motorcycle

Ola Electric CEO Bhavish Agarwal announced in his official blog that the company would enter the commuter motorcycle market this year. Furthermore, the CEO announced in his official blog post that “we will launch several additional 2W EV products in 2023, 2024… a mass market motorcycle, and several premium motorcycles.” Similar to the Honda product mentioned above, little is known about the upcoming Ola products. However, we expect them to be brand-new products and have bigger batteries than the Ola S1 and Ola S1 Pro scooters.

TVS Fiero 125

Earlier in 2022, We noted that TVS had registered multiple product names, Fiero being one of them. Now that the Raider 125 is available, the brand already has a robust platform with impressive engines. So, based on that, it won’t be surprising if TVS revives the Fiero badge.

Yamaha XSR125

Yamaha XSR125 is quite an exciting product that the company will introduce in India, but the company has yet to confirm the same. However, the Yamaha bike is already available in the European market as an entry-level vintage motorcycle for the company. It is powered by a 125cc liquid-cooled engine with 14.75 horsepower and 10.85 Nm of peak torque. Though the XSR125 is an essential motorbike, it can be equipped with a few options, like a full-LED lighting system, dual-channel ABS, and upside-down front forks.

Pure EV EcoDryft

The EcoDryft commuter electric two-wheeler has already been unveiled by the Hyderabad-based electric two-wheeler company Pure EV. It will serve as the new flagship motorcycle of the company and has been completely designed, built, and manufactured in India. The EcoDryft will be available in the country in January at the upcoming 2023 Auto Expo, where prices will be made public.
