The X 350, Harley-Davidson’s smallest motorcycle for the global market outside India, was just launched in China. Why? Because it is collaborating with Hero MotoCorp on another smaller capacity bike, the HD 400, which is being developed keeping India (as a market) in mind. Now we have a glimpse of what it could look like thanks to some leaked photos, and here’s all we know:
Upcoming Harley Davidson Bike: Design
It will be a part of the planned small-capacity-Davidson Sportster family with Indian specifications and will borrow heavily from the bigger XR 1200X in terms of styling. It gets a single-piece seat, wide handlebars, split grab rail, LED lights, TFT instrument cluster, and wide handlebars. However, it is not clear whether it has Bluetooth connectivity or not. A speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, and clock are the basic indicators shown on the console. The price of this bikе is above 2 lakh.
Upcoming Harley Davidson Bike: Engine
The bike’s internal code, HD 4XX, was discovered in one leaked image, suggesting it could be an entirely new 400cc platform unrelated to its Chinese sibling or the impending Xpulse 400 Is. For the sake of simplicity, let’s call it the Harley Davidson HD400. The pictures show the single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled motor on the India-spec bike, even though the X 350 is built on a parallel-twin platform with liquid cooling. We don’t know its actual power and torque numbers. However, the redline on the instrument cluster tops at 8000 rpm, indicating that it will be a fast bike.
Upcoming Harley Davidson Bike: Hardware
From what can be seen, the motorcycle is supported by twin gas-charged rear shocks and an upside-down fork. Bybra calipers will assist the disc brakes at either end in controlling braking. Dual-channel ABS is likely to come as standard. There are likely 18-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels shod with CEAT Zoom Cruise tyres, which have been pictured rolling the baby Sportster.
Upcoming Harley Davidson Bike: Price
The motorcycle has never been seen before, but from what can be seen, it looks almost production ready. This motorcycle will likely be launched this year itself (mid-2023. While its closest competitors will be the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, Yezdi Roadster, Jawa 42 2.1 and the Honda CB350RS, we estimate the Harley-Davidson HD400 to be priced around Rs 2.5 to 2.7 lakh (ex-showroom), which will enable it to be priced around Rs.
