Honda will launch its first electric two-wheeler in India next year. On March 29, 2023, it may discuss its electrification strategies for the Indian market. By March 2024, the business will introduce its first electric vehicle, an Activa-based electric scooter.

On the sidelines of the Shine 100 commuter bike launch, Honda said it would officially announce its plans for electric two-wheelers in India on March 29.

Honda Motorcycles has yet to specify what its first two-wheeled electric vehicle will look like, but an electric scooter is almost certain to be what it will look like. According to the patent, the company is developing an e-scooter based on Honda Activa 125. Furthermore, Honda President, MD, and CEO Atsushi Ogata revealed during the Activa H-Smart launch that the company will release its first electric scooter by March 2024.

Honda Activa electric scooter: What to expect?

At the Activa H-Smart launch event, HMSI hinted at its plans to electrify India. According to the company’s MD and CEO, Atsushi Ogata, Honda’s first electric vehicle for the Indian market is being developed in collaboration with a Japanese team. It will be built at the business’s Manesar plant in Haryana and will be an India-specific product based on the Activa 6G.

A straightforward mass-market scooter, the Honda Activa Electric, will be available. It will be built on the existing Activa 6G base and equipped with an electric drivetrain with a top speed of around 50 Kmph. The firm has not yet revealed the battery capacity and range per charge.

To meet its electrification goals, Honda first intends to set up a new EV production line at its manufacturing facility in Vithalapur, Gujarat. It is speculated that in the long run, its Narsapura, Karnataka plant will be the headquarters for its EV operations.

Honda Shine 100 and Activa H-Smart

In India, Honda recently unveiled the Shine 100 and the Activa H-Smart. The ex-showroom price is Rs 64,900, and the other is Rs 80,537. Honda’s cheapest motorbike, the Shine 100, is powered by a 99.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 7.6 horsepower and 8.05 Nm. On the other hand, the Honda Activa H-Smart gets a 109.51cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that now produces 7.73 horsepower and 8.9 Nm of torque.
