Kawasaki is launching a new adventure bike, the KLR650S. Kawasaki Australia is currently offering two variants for 2022: the KLR650 Traveler and the KLR650 Adventure.

Kawasaki is trying to increase the popularity of its adventure brand KLR650. The business intends to introduce a new version for the Australian market. Two models of the KLR650 will be offered internationally: the traveler and adventure.

The Kawasaki KLR650 is back in action. The classic dual-sports bikes from the Japanese manufacturer has been revived for 2022 and remains true to its legacy, a brand new motorcycle with several improvements over its predecessor.

Kawasaki KLR650S Engine

The KLR650 is powered by a single-cylinder, DOHC, liquid-cooled, 652cc engine. Now, the new model gets fuel injection. The exhaust system has undergone more significant modifications; According to Kawasaki, the exhaust pipe diameter has been reduced by 7.7 mm to “enhance mid-range torque characteristics to fit everyday riding better”.

The clutch and transmission have also been changed. The gear dog and shift fork of the third gear have been updated, and a new finishing process has been applied to the fourth and fifth gears. Clutch-release bearings have been changed from ball to thrust-needle bearings.

The new sealed battery is more convenient and also much lighter than the old battery. Compared to previous versions, the starter, ignition coil, and evaporator canister have all undergone modifications and are significantly lighter.

Kawasaki KLR650 Chassis

The rear frame is now merged with the main frame, the swingarm is 30 mm longer, and the pivot shaft is 2 mm larger in the new KLR 650, which still uses the semi-double-cradle frame.

A 41mm front fork with an amazing 200mm suspension travel and a mono-shock suspension with 185mm travel is responsible for handling. Preload and rebound can be changed on the rear suspension.

The front brake now gets a 300 mm disc which is bigger and should provide more stopping power. To help dissipate heat during hard braking, the rear discs have been thickened by 1 mm. The petal shape of the disc has also been replaced by a circular disc.

The KLR650’s front and rear wheels are 21 inches in diameter. In its news announcement, Kawasaki stated that a stronger material had been selected for the rear wheel.

Kawasaki KLR650S Features

The bike also gets an LCD instrument display, an integrated accessory mounting bar, two more power outlets, and LED headlights.

The foot pegs on the upcoming bike KLR650 have been moved out by 10 mm to improve the ergonomics with the new handlebar, which is also 10 mm wider. Both now have rubber mountings to reduce vibration. Also 2 inches higher, the windshield now has an additional 1 inch of adjustment.

Kawasaki KLR650S Price and Variants

Two variants of the 2022 Kawasaki KLR650S will be offered internationally: one with ABS and the other without. Two more variations are the KLR650 Adventure and KLR650 Traveller. The Adventure gets two power outlets, an engine guard, a set of 21-liter panniers, and LED auxiliary lighting. The Traveler, on the other hand, gets a 42-liter top case and two power outlets.

The ABS model of the KLR 650 is priced at $6,999 (Rs 5.10 lakh), while the non-ABS model costs $6,699 (Rs 4.88 lakh). The bike variants Adventure and Traveler are priced at $7,999 (Rs 5.83 lakh) and $7,399 (Rs 5.39 lakh). The KLR model never became available in India, and it is doubtful that Kawasaki will do so very soon. However, Kawasaki Bikes already has a presence in the Indian two-wheeler market with some of its best 650cc bikes, such as Kawasaki Z650RS, Kawasaki Ninja 650, and Kawasaki Vulcan S.
