The sub-500cc bike segment is gaining momentum. Adventure bikes like KTM 390 Adventure, Royal Enfield Himalayan, Yezdi Adventure, and the BMW G 310 GS are popular in this segment. The most popular among these motorcycles are the Himalayan and the 390 Adventure. The new rival 390 Adventure will be launched in India later this year. Europeans know how to make adventure motorcycles, and the Scrambler 400X will directly compete with the 390 Adventure.

This comparison makes Triumph and KTM all the more interesting. To find out how they compete against each scrambler and adventure motorcycle. The Scrambler 900 and 1200 are the scrambler motorcycles in Triumph’s lineup adventure motorcycles such as the Tiger 900, and 1200 were also introduced. KTM has built its reputation as an off-road specialist, and that influence has carried over to its medium, large-capacity adventure motorcycles.

Scrambler 400X Vs. 390 Adventure: Design

The Triumph Scrambler 400X is a new motorcycle that has been completely redesigned. The design inspiration for the Triumph Scrambler 400X has been taken from the larger motorcycles offered by Triumph, the Scrambler 900 and 1200. The upright seating arrangement is the best for a Triumph motorcycle, and the round headlight and long travel suspension enhance the retro styling of the 400X.

The styling cues of the KTM 390 Adventure have been taken from its elder siblings in the KTM lineup. In terms of looks, both play their part very well and feature unique designs; the headlight design sets the 390 Adventure apart. The tall stance with the upright riding position adds to the overall theme.

Scrambler 400X Vs. 390 Adventure: Engine

Triumph Scrambler 400X liquid-cooled engine, the single-cylinder bike is powered by 398cc, generating maximum power of 39.5bhp and peak torque of 37.5Nm. The KTM 390 Adventure is powered by 373cc and generates 43bhp of max power and 37Nm of peak torque. Both the motorcycles are mated to a 6-speed gearbox and produce similar capacity. The 390 Adventure is offered with a quick shifter, while the Triumph Scrambler 400X skips it.

Scrambler 400X Vs 390 Adventure: Features, Wheels & Suspension

The Triumph Scrambler 400X motorcycle gets USD forks, alloy wheels, 19-inch front and 17-inch rear tyres, and a rear mono-shock. The bike comes equipped with disc brakes at both front and rear and dual-channel ABS that can be switched off. The Scrambler 400X features traction control and a semi-digital instrument cluster but no phone connectivity.

The KTM 390 Adventure gets the same suspension setup. However, the motorcycle variants are offered with alloy or spoke wheels. In addition to this, the adjustable front suspension is also on offer in the top-spec variant. Features on the 390 Adventure are dual-channel ABS, quick-shifter TFT display, traction control, and cornering ABS.

Conclusion

When both the motorcycles were compared based on engine, specifications, and features, KTM 390 has more features while Triumph Scrambler gets more suspension travel. However, the spoke wheel option of the KTM makes it more capable off-road. For those who want a simple 390 Adventure, KTM bikes offer that too, but with alloy wheels.
