The Bharat Mobility Expo 2024, which recently concluded in New Delhi, provided a venue for auto manufacturers to showcase their current and upcoming motorcycles and scooters. Although there were many exciting two-wheelers at the show, these are popular ones listed below.
Hero Xoom 160
The Hero company’s upcoming adventure maxi-scooter is called the Hero Xoom 160. The wide windscreen, split LED headlamps, and the ADV-like beak on the front apron showcase it all. The “adventure” nature of the scooter is further highlighted by the dual-purpose tires mounted on 14-inch wheels. The Xoom 160’s massive dimensions and stylish design should make it stand out on the road.
Powering the Xoom 160 is a 156cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 14bhp and 13.7Nm. Hero has also included several practical features in the scooter, like a digital display that can be Bluetooth enabled, remote boot release, and keyless ignition.
The Hero Bikes is expected to release the Xoom 160 in a few months, possibly by the end of April 2024.
Yamaha Nmax 155
The Nmax 155 Yamaha was parked in a corner of the event. A larger relative of the Yamaha Aerox 155, the Nmax 155 offers more functionality. The styling is vast and impressive (for a scooter) in classic max-scooter style. The seamless transition between the apron, side, and tail sections and the stance provided by the 13-inch wheels give it a beautiful look.
The single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine of the Nmax 155, which produces 14.9 bhp and 13.5 Nm, is undoubtedly the show’s star. The Yamaha Bikes have provided the same engine as seen in the MT-15, and it is renowned for offering an excellent balance between performance and fuel economy.
Royal Enfield Classic 350 Flex
The much-hyped Royal Enfield Classic 350 motorcycle, compatible with flex-fuel, was showcased at the expo. This means it can operate on E20 to E85 petrol and ethanol combinations. The only engines available for purchase in India right now are E20-compliant. In contrast, engines compatible with significantly higher ethanol blends are available in areas such as Brazil.
The Classic 350 Flex is powered by the same single-cylinder J-series engine as the conventional Classic 350, producing 20 horsepower at 6,100 rpm and 27 Nm at 4,000 rpm. However, some modifications have been made to sealants and gaskets to accommodate the increased corrosive properties of ethanol.
Yamaha R15M Carbon
The Yamaha R15M showcased in Carbon Edition trim at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024 was unique. The carbon fiber treatment extends to the tail section, front fairing, and side sections, resembling the design of the actual carbon fiber panels on the Yamaha R1M. The rest of the bike is painted in the same silver color as the standard R15M.
The R15M Carbon has a regular bike’s features mechanically, including traction control and a quick shifter.
Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE
With the much-awaited release of the V-Strom 800 DI in 2024, Suzuki Bikes returned to the forefront of the adventure bike market in India. The bike is brand new, and its 776cc parallel-twin engine—which produces 83 horsepower and 78 Nm—is one of its main selling points. Apart from its 270-degree firing order, there is also a strong mid-range.
This bike has a distinctive style for its category, and the yellow color makes it attractive. Beneath the bodywork is a redesigned frame supported by a mono-shock with remote preload adjustment and Showa USD. It’s equipped with riding modes, switchable ABS, and travel-equipped.
The V-Strom 800 DE will soon go on sale at a competitive price, possibly lower than its main rival, the Honda XL750 Transalp.
