TVS XL100 Comfort is a moped scooter developed to meet the rural markets and their demands. This hassle-free two-wheeler is known for its low maintenance and good value for money. In contrast, Kinetic Green has launched the Luna electric avatar, the e-Luna. The Luna recently made a comeback as an electric vehicle. Let’s find out how these two mopeds compare with each other.
Design
The Kinetic e-Luna and the TVS XL100 have traditional moped designs. The e-Luna is more barebones and looks well integrated, while the XL100 has more body panels, making it a bit bulkier. Both mopeds have front luggage space and come with leg guards as standard.
TVS XL 100 is a rural product, and TVS Bikes in India has designed it to look extremely useful. The tall handlebar, the large single seat, and the round headlamp all make the moped functional.
The petrol-powered model inspires the Kinetic e-Luna’s design and features bare-bones bodywork. It has a round headlight surrounded by a square cowl. It also has a split seat and a good floorboard area.
Engine/Motor
The Kinetic E-Luna is powered by a 1.2kW motor that is mated to a 2kWh battery. This setup offers a riding range of 100 km and a top speed of 50kmph. The charging time is said to be four hours.
On the other hand, the TVS XL 100’s mechanical specification includes a 100cc single-cylinder four-stroke fuel-injected engine. That develops 4.4bhp at 6,000rpm and 6.5Nm of peak torque at 3,500rpm. It has a top speed of around 58 kmph and a 4-liter fuel tank capacity.
Underpinnings
The Kinetic Green E-Luna’s hardware includes telescopic front forks and dual rear shocks. The brakes include drum units at both ends mounted on spoke wheels, shod in road-biased tires.
In comparison, the XL100 Comfort doesn’t have many features due to its product positioning, but it does have conventional telescopic suspension at the front and dual hydraulic springs at the rear. The brakes are drums on both sides.
Instrumentation and Features
The TVS XL 100 and Kinetic E-Luna mopeds are equipped with bulb headlights, taillights, and indicators. However, the XL 100 also has an LED DRL below the headlight. Both have the facility of a USB charging port.
The TVS XL100 has a simple analog instrument cluster that includes a speedometer and odometer. The mid and top variants of the moped come with a USB charging port. Additional features include a Cushioned Backrest, Silver Oak-Colored panels, a dual-tone seat, a Chrome Silencer guard, a Comfortable long single seat, and a Headlamp Fairing.
Verdict
The TVS XL100, being an ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle, is more affordable, with a starting price of Rs 46,671 (ex-showroom), and is easy to fuel. The Kinetic e-Luna, on the other hand, justifies its premium with its digital display, connected features, meager running costs, and almost negligible maintenance expenses, with a starting price of Rs 76,490 (ex-showroom).
