Honda has introduced the CBR400R sport tourer and NX500 adventure tourer for 2024 in Japan. Let’s explore more about this –
Honda Bikes unveiled the new NX500 and CBR500R at the Milan EICMA in 2023. Additionally, Honda had discussed a 400cc version of the NX500, which is currently available in Japan as the NX400. The crossover 400X, available to buy since 2013, has been replaced by the NX400. The CBR400R motorcycle has received an upgrade for the 2024 model year.
2024 Honda NX400 and CBR400R – Key feature
The 2024 NX400 is marketed as a state-of-the-art street adventure motorcycle. Despite being a 400X derivative, the bike features a revised equipment list and a facelift. New features on the NX400 and CBR400R include a 5-inch full-color TFT display and Honda Selectable Torque Control. Users can connect their smartphone to the Honda RoadSync app via Bluetooth to access turn-by-turn navigation, music, messages, and calls.
The 2024 CBR400R features redesigned headlamps, taillights, and headlamp cowls. The middle cover has openings and wings on the new tubes. These contribute to the bike’s athletic appearance. The new 2024 CBR400R is available in Grand Prix Red and Matte Ballistic Black Metallic color options.
In short, the final concept is all black. It is also compatible with the NX400. Pearl Glare White is the second color option for the NX400. The combined profile of both bikes looks best complemented by the multicolored tints.
Honda NX400 and CBR400R specs, performance
The 2024 Honda NX400 and CBR400R are powered by a 399cc DOHC, 4-valve, parallel 2-cylinder water-cooled engine. It produces a maximum power output of 46 bhp and a peak torque of 38 Nm. A 6-speed gearbox is fitted with the engine. Fuel efficiency, as per WMTC regulations, is 28.1 km/l.
Compared to the CBR400R (2080×760×1145mm), the 2024 NX400 is longer, wider, and taller (2150×830×1390mm). The wheelbase measures 1435 mm and 1410 mm in that order. The NX400 has 150 mm of ground clearance, while the CBR400R has only 130 mm. The NX400 weighs 5 kg more than the CBR400R, which weighs 191 kg. The CBR400R has 17-inch wheels at both ends, while the NX400 has 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels.
The front and rear brake setups have two discs and one disc, respectively. Both tourer bikes share similar features like Showa SFF-BP inverted forks, assist, and slipper clutch. These were also compatible with previous models.
2024 Honda CBR400R and NX400 likely to launch in India
Newer bikes like the Triumph 400, Harley Davidson X440, Mavrick 440, and Himalayan 450 have become popular in the sub-middleweight motorcycle market. It is estimated that this market will grow significantly in the future. According to reports, Bajaj may also use the Pulsar NS400 to expand in this segment.
Given favorable market conditions, Honda may launch the NX400 and CBR400R in India. The starting price of the Honda CBR400R in Japan is 863,500 yen (around Rs 4.77 lakh). The price of NX400 is 891,000 yen (around Rs 4.93 lakh).
