Matter Aera Electric Bike in India

The Aera, India’s first geared electric motorcycle, is available for Rs.1.44 Lakh from Matter motors.

Three-year unlimited kilometer warranty on bikes and batteries is a regular offering from Ahmedabad-based electric bike company Matter.

Ahmedabad-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing startup Matter has finally released its first two-wheeler EV after formally debuting it in November last year. The first geared battery-operated motorbike manufactured and introduced in India is known as Aera.

The Aera will be sold in India in 5000 and 5000+, priced at Rs 1.44 lakh and Rs 1.54 lakh, ex-showroom, respectively (both include FAME-II subsidy but exclude state subsidy). Future releases of electric motorcycles by the business will include the Aera 4000 and Aera 6000.

Matter motors had earlier showcased its two-wheeler at the Auto Expo 2023. The motorcycle is available for pre-order across major metros and Tier I cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Chennai. For the next 30 days, Aera bookings will be open, and deliveries are expected to begin this summer. But the Matter did not specify any time frame.

Matter Aera Electric Motorcycle: Exterior design

Aera’s naked street bike is designed using a tried-and-true formula and looks well-proportioned and stylish. It adopts an angular, forward-leaning stance with modern naked streetfighters in mind. Three dual-tone color schemes are available for the bike: a triple-tone red, black and white shade; gray and neon; blue and gold; and black and gold.

Split seats, a floating tail section, star-patterned alloy wheels, an unusual LED headlight with integrated turn indicators, a raised clip-on handlebar, a muscular faux fuel tank with extended shrouds, and split-style grab rails are a few. Only the striking visual features make it stand out.

Matter Aera Electric Motorcycle: Features

Seven-inch touch-compatible LCD instrumentation with music playback, turn-by-turn directions, and call/message notification alerts are among Matter’s notable features in the Matter Aera. The software receives OTA (Over The Air) updates, and the screen also provides ride statistics and is controlled by buttons on the switchgear.

Geo-fencing, park assist (reverse capability), theft detection, passive keyless entry and ignition, and a 5-liter storage container are notable features in the electric vehicle. The details of the additional Lifestyle, Connected, and Care+ packages available with the 5000+ model are yet to be finalized.

Matter Aera Electric Motorcycle: Powertrain, hardware specs

A 10.5kW electric bike motor, powered by a 5kWh liquid-cooled battery, gives the Aera 5000 a real-world range of 125km. A four-speed manual transmission, unusual in EVs, transfers power to the rear wheels. The 4kWh and 6kWh battery packs will benefit the 4000 and 6000 models of the Aera.

It takes five hours to fully recharge the 5kWh lithium-ion battery when the inbuilt charger is plugged into a normal 5A household outlet. The motorcycle takes six seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph.

The Aera’s hardware includes a twin cradle chassis supported by dual rear shocks and conventional telescopic front forks. Braking is handled by a single front disc, while single-channel ABS brakes cater to the rear disc. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with road-facing tyres.
