The 80 horsepower, 15,000 rpm inline-four engine for the Kawasaki ZX-4R has been unveiled globally. There are three versions of the ZX-4R: Basic, SE, and RR, each with unique hardware, features, and colors.
The ZX-4R sports bike has been introduced overseas, and the main talking point is the 399cc inline-four engine. The torque figure is unknown. Kawasaki will offer the bike in three different variants: Normal, SE, and RR, each with unique features, accessories, and colors.
Kawasaki ZX-4R: Engine and Specs
With a 399cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine and 6-speed transmission power, this little sportbike with a peak power output of 77.5 horsepower (which goes up to 80 horsepower with ram air assist). This inline-four engine has a new steel trellis frame with Showa suspension at either end, although specifications vary depending on the variant.
Showa SFF-BP forks (Separate Function Fork – Big Piston) and preload-adjustable horizontal monoshock are standard on the ZX-4R. The SE variant offers front fork preload adjustment. The shock equivalent of the shock on the ZX-10R superbike is a Showa BFRC-lite unit. The regular and RR variants of the ZX-4R weigh 188 kg, while the SE model comes with 189 kg.
The front includes twin 290mm disc brakes, gripped by sturdy Nissin four-piston radial calipers despite the master cylinder being an axial unit, another unusual feature for a bike with such a small capacity. Dual-channel ABS braking system is a standard feature, and the single rear disc is a 220mm unit. The 120/70-ZR17 front and 160/60-ZR17 rear tyres have the same ratio as the wider but less powerful Kawasaki Ninja 650.
Kawasaki ZX-4R: Electronic Rider Aids, Features
Several electronic rider aids are available on the ZX-4R, including four riding modes: Sport, Road, Rain (pre-set), and Rider (which is fully customizable). Changes in riding modes will also affect connected traction control and power modes. A bidirectional quick-shifter is available as an optional extra on the base version but comes standard on SE and RR models.
The 4.3-inch color TFT dash with Bluetooth compatibility controls the entire system and provides turn-by-turn navigation and alerts for information. In addition, the dash features a separate “track” configuration that only displays the lap timer and gear position indicators and spins above 10,000 rpm (indicating that the engine is approaching its redline and peak power).
The mid-spec SE variant has the most features. A smoked front visor, KRT paint job, frame sliders, and bidirectional quick-shifter are all standard equipment. The standard model may also be equipped with these additional features.
Kawasaki ZX-4R: Price, Rivals, India Launch
Kawasaki has revealed prices only for the highest-spec RR variant, which costs $9,699, so far (roughly Rs. 7.95 lakhs). The ZX-4R is a one-of-a-kind vehicle, given the distinctive engine design for its displacement class. The Honda CBR 650R, another Japanese inline-four with a price tag of $9,899, is the closest competitor (roughly Rs. 8.11 lakhs). The CBR is a bigger, more powerful (producing 95hp internationally, 87hp in India) but heavier bike, at 211kg, with a relatively small price difference between the two.
The Kawasaki ZX-4R is suited for European roads, unlike the ZX-25R, which was only sold in a few markets. Kawasaki bikes sell almost all of its international models in India; The ZX-4R may be coming here. If so, budget for a much higher price tag than the parallel-twin Ninja 650 at Rs 7.12 lakh; It can range from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh, if not more.
