For some time, Bajaj and Triumph have collaborated on a sub-500cc platform. The small displacement bikes with Triumph branding are produced in India by Bajaj. Additionally, Bajaj Auto recently announced in an official communication that as part of the agreement, it would assume control of Triumph India’s sales and marketing operations. Here’s a rundown of what to anticipate from the eagerly awaited vehicle.
STYLE AND FEATURES
It is safe to assume that two versions will be available based on spy photos circulating online. One will be a scrambler, while the other will be a roadster, despite having the same chassis underneath. The former has frequently been spotted undergoing road testing while heavily camouflaged to conceal the bike’s design. A test mule with wire wheels, a high-mounted front fender, hand guards, split seating, and options for top boxes, soft panniers, and tank bags were sighted last year. On the other hand, the roadster version will have cast alloys, a one-piece saddle, and more road-focuse ergonomics and riding triangles.
The Bajaj Triumph bike will have dual-tipped underslung exhaust canisters, an offset petrol filler cap, semi-digital instrumentation with a big tachometer and an LCD screen for other information, and all-around LED lighting as standard features. The bike’s fuel tank capacity is expected to be between 13 and 15 liters. Expect the motorcycle to include bike riding modes, rider aids like dual-channel ABS, traction control, and, ideally, the ability to switch off ABS at the scrambler’s rear wheel.
HARDWARE AND ENGINE
The next Bajaj-Triumph bike will be driven by a 300-400 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor with a 4-valve cylinder head. The engine covers are strikingly similar to Triumph’s Bonneville line of motorbikes. Although the power ratings are unknown, we anticipate 40 horsepower and 35 Nm. This would be comparable to what Bajaj delivers on its Dominar 400.
The motorcycle’s frame and subframe are probably steel tubing and bolted on. Long-travel non-adjustable USDs in the front and a mono-shock with preload control will handle suspension responsibilities. Both ends of the vehicle will have disc brakes, with a single-piston floating-type caliper and a two-piston radially mounted caliper at the front and back, respectively.
PRICING AND COMPETITION
Pricing will determine which motorbike market the upcoming Bajaj Triumph bike will compete in. We anticipate it will cost between Rs 3.5 and 4 lacs (ex-showroom), putting it in the same price range as motorcycles like the KTM 390 Adventure, BMW G310 GS, and Royal Enfield Interceptor 650.
DATE OF LAUNCH
We anticipate the motorcycle to debut in India in September, with the official unveiling coming after the motorcycle is introduced to the international market.
