Top Selling Two Wheelers May

In May 2022, every major two-wheeler manufacturer in India reported a YoY increase in sales. Domestic sales of the top six two-wheeler manufacturers were 11,88,937 units in May 2022, a 246.29 percent increase over the 3,43,336 units sold in May 2021. It was also an 8.17 percent YoY increase from 10,99,167 units sold in April 2022 with this India became the number one two-wheeler market in the world. Here is the top-selling two-wheeler in May 2022.

However, because of the pandemic scenario in the country, May 2021 was a terrible period for the whole motor sector in India. May 2021 was the month with the highest average number of cases and deaths in India, which resulted in the closure of schools, colleges, and offices, as well as a significant disruption in production activities.

Hero MotoCorp topped the chart in May 2022, with a 39.23 percent market share and sales of 4,66,466 units. This compares to 1,59,561 units sold in May 2021, resulting in a 3,06,905 unit volume increase. MoM sales increased by 17.06 percent from 3,98,490 units sold in April 2022 to 3,98,490 units sold in April 2022. In the previous month, the market share was 36.25 percent.

Honda’s two-wheeler sales grew by 727.71 percent YoY to 3,20,844 units, up from 38,763 in May 2021. The corporation held a market share of 26.99 percent, down from 29 percent in April 2022, when sales climbed only modestly by 0.66 percent MoM from 3,18,732 units sold in the same month.

TVS Motor increased its sales by 267.64 percent YoY to 1,91,482 units, up from 52,084 units sold in May 2021, resulting in a 1,39,398 unit volume increase. MoM sales increased by 6.06 percent compared to the 1,80,533 units sold in April 2022. The TVS Jupiter, Apache, Raider, Sport, Star City, Ntorq, Pep+, and XL100 were among the best-selling models in the company’s catalog, while the TVS iQube e-scooter also performed well.

In May 2022, Bajaj bikes (96,102 units) and Suzuki bikes (60,518 units) saw 59.26 percent and 383.64 percent YoY growth in two-wheeler sales, respectively. In April 2022, the two automakers saw an MoM increase in sales of 3.08 percent and 11.40 percent, respectively, with 93,233 and 54,327 units sold. Domestic sales increased by 166.65 percent YoY to 53,523 units, up from 20,073 units sold in May 2021, while MoM sales decreased by 0.61 percent from 53,852 units sold in April 2022.

Two Wheeler Exports May 2022

Even though every major two-wheeler manufacturer reported remarkable growth in domestic sales, exports ended red in both YoY and MoM terms. Total exports of the top six two-wheeler manufacturers fell 4.88 percent to 3,22,681 units in May 2022, down from 3,39,241 units exported in May 2022. MoM exports declined 14.26 percent in April 2022.

The Honda bikes exports increased 66.68 percent YoY to 32,344 units but fell 23.53 percent month on month from 42,295 units sold in April 2022. The market share declined from 11.24 percent to 10.02 percent in the same period. Hero MotoCorp (20,238 units), Suzuki (11,008 units), and RE (10,118 units) were also on the export list. However, Hero bikes exports fell 13.82 percent YoY, while Suzuki’s (164.59 percent) and RE’s (40.12 percent) increased YoY. RE’s MoM exports grew 21.86 percent YoY to 8,303 units sold in April 2022.

Data Source

Total sales of these top six two-wheeler manufacturers increased by 121.46 percent YoY to 15,11,618 units, up from 6,82,577 units in May 2021. MoM sales grew 2.45 percent from 14,75,524 units sold in April 2022 to 14,75,524 in April 2022. Hero was first with 4,86,704 units sold up by 165.89 percent YoY, while Honda was second with 3,53,188 units sold up by 507.19 percent year over year. Hero bike prices in India including first-ride experiences, comparison tests, etc. It is well-known in the two-wheeler motorcycle industry.
