The world’s first CNG-powered motorcycle, the Bajaj Freedom 125, was introduced by Bajaj Auto and retailed for Rs 95,000 (ex-showroom). Bajaj claims that the CNG bike was introduced to lower air pollution levels for a better future. Compared to a two-wheeler driven by petrol, the bike’s running expenses are substantially lower because it is largely powered by CNG. Despite being a commuter motorcycle in India, Bajaj gave the Freedom 125 CNG bike a unique, high-end-looking design that includes braced handlebars, an exposed trellis frame, and forks with fork sleeves.
The bike is now available in three different variants: Drum, Drum LED, and Disc LED. Here’s how the three types differ if you decide to buy one.
Bajaj Freedom CNG: Disc LED
The top-spec model, as its name implies, has an LED headlamp with a 240mm front disc and 130mm rear drum braking arrangement. Additionally, the Disc LED version features smartphone connectivity and an inverted full LCD. Additionally, it features a plastic and sheet metal belly pan. Lastly, a tank cover flap that covers the intake is also added to the Freedom Disc LED.
The Bajaj Freedom 125 Disc LED variant has an asking price of Rs. 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Five colors are available for purchase: blue, black, white, red, and gray.
Bajaj Freedom CNG: Drum LED
The Freedom mid-variant features LED DRLs and a headlamp. It has an entirely digital instrument cluster, but no networking options are available. This model has 130 mm drum brakes up front but keeps the same size tires as the top variant. The rear is attached to a 130 mm CBS drum brake. For underbody protection, a dash plate made of both plastic and metal is included.
It is also equipped with an LED headlight, although it is not smartphone-compatible. The small LCD used in the Freedom 125 Drum LED variant stores all the required readouts.
This one also has a tank flap and a belly pan made of sheet metal and plastic, same as the Disc LED variant. The asking price of the Freedom 125 Drum LED is Rs. 1.05 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Bajaj Freedom CNG: Drum
This is the least expensive model and the starting point for the Freedom 125 CNG bike series. A 130mm front and rear drum is fitted to a 17-inch front wheel and a 16-inch rear wheel on the Drum brake variant. The tires are 80/90 on the front and 80/100 on the back.
A sheet metal belly pan and a bulb headlamp are added to the Bajaj Freedom 125 Drum trim. Additionally, smartphone connectivity is lost. There are just two paint colors available: Ebony Black and Pewter Grey. Retail pricing for the base trim is Rs. 95,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
A 125cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that generates 9.7Nm at 5,000 rpm and 9.5bhp at 8,000 rpm powers all three trim levels. There is a five-speed gearbox attached to the engine. Furthermore, the three trimmings all have the same design.
